Reflecting God
Thursday, January 14, 2016
We have created a terrible kind of dualism between the spiritual and the so-called non-spiritual. This dualism is precisely what Jesus came to reveal as a lie. The principle of incarnation proclaims that matter and spirit have never been separate. Jesus came to tell us that these two seemingly different worlds are and always have been one. We just couldn’t see it until God put them together in his one body (see Ephesians 2:11-20). “In [Christ Jesus] you also are being built together into a dwelling place of God in the Spirit” (Ephesians 2:22).

Where O where,
we ask,
is God
and so we seek diligently
brooding over Sacred Scripts
delving deep into mystical ritual
diligently following spiritual practices
seeking to find that
which sometimes seems as if it cannot be found
we seek to escape this horrible
common
profane
worldly existence
and find our way to Sacred
we have made it way too difficult
do you want to find Sacred?
look in mirror
for you have God woven into your very being
into your soul
you are a Sacred child
look at the mountain before you
the stretch of the ocean
run the good earth through your fingers
(or today, where I am, the snow)
smell a flower
play with a child
snuggle with your cat
play with your dog
feel the breeze on your face
or the warmth of the sun
where is God?
everywhere
even in that face in the mirror
